Powder (your nose) Room

There used to be floral wallpaper, so I wanted to pay homage to the original house (there was also another layer of wallpaper under that.) The only wallpaper Danny agreed with me on was this one of black birds & butterflies, because he said it looks like a tattoo. My favorite movie growing up was Madeline and they sang, “This is the song of the nightingale” which is why I chose this wallpaper called Nightingale. This powder room is the perfect example of my design aesthetic vintage modern, with the vintage wallpaper and the modern amenities. We did beadboard ¾ up the wall ~ a different wall texture in every room (like the shiplap in the vestibule) but all painted the same color for continuity throughout the house ~ so that the whole room wasn’t head-to-toe wallpapered. I chose a different shade color than the rest of the house to blend in with the background color of the wallpaper.

There was a swinging door, which took up a lot of room, so we made it into a pocket door, which matches the cosmopolitan style cabinets in the kitchen. We flipped sink/toilet positioning, so that way you wouldn’t be looking into the kitchen window when standing up. I wanted a floating toilet for easy cleaning underneath. We custom-made a slope sink made of black galaxy stone. I chose a hexagon shaped faucet to match the hexagon daisy dot tile, in chrome to match the silver speckles in the stone, with “H/C” knobs in a vintage typewriter font. I asked for an extra piece of stone to make a matching door saddle. Since there is no storage in the slope sink, I wanted a medicine cabinet. I found one with light up edges, which is pretty to *powder* your nose in the powder room.

I didn’t want to puncture a hole in the wallpaper, so we used the ceiling to its advantage by hanging a birdcage to go with the floating bird theme. I didn’t want to nail a toilet paper holder into the beadboard, so the freestanding one is good to store things. Monogrammed hand towels are a nice *touch* for guests to use.
