Lit Living Room

We painted the wood (forgive me Nicole Curtis) the same portobella color because it was in rough shape and it needed a touch up anyway. We couldn’t decide on a paint color for months, until we came across a neutral white called Chantilly Lace which is the simple backdrop to make the beams stand out. My dad loves to sing the song Chantility Lace which he got for me on vinyl.

Before it wasn’t even a nice brown brick, it was more a fire truck red, so we painted it a glossy white to make it bright & airy instead of dark & dingy. We installed sleek black doors on the outside, and a chimney chute cleanout inside. The multi-colored Vermont slate tile hearth was a few inches raised (easy to stub your toe on) so we found a black slate and made it flush with the floor. Before the mantle was wimpy, so we beefed it up by boxing it out with crown molding.

We couldn’t find a couch that wouldn’t block all the entrances/exits, so we got a modular LoveSac couch so we can shape it however we want. We put the couch in the middle of the room so you can walk around the entire room freely. We found this cool coffee table with an asymmetrical display case and storage on both sides. The bookshelf holds our photo albums, vinyl collection, picture frames and decor.

We added library lights on the two medium-sized walls, which highlight our bookshelf and original blueprints of our house. The shades are from Lowes called Kyoto in a mushroom color, which perfectly matches the portobella paint. The big windows make it feel like a treehouse during the day, and a cozy cabin in the woods at night.

Christmas themed for today, but we usually have seasonal decor on the mantle and bookshelves. Speaking of seasons, I found a cool holographic changing of the seasons picture in an antique store in Pennsylvania!
